General elections are held for each office every four years. In Leader, elections are held in order to elect a mayor and 6 councillors. These councillors will represent the community as a whole and are not representing distinct wards or districts.
The 2024 General Election affecting all cities, towns and villages was held Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

The Town of Leader is holding a by-election for the position of Councillor. There is one seat open in this by-election.

Call for Nominations – March 11th to 25th
* Pick up nomination papers at the Town of Leader Administration Office
Nominations Day – March 25
* Have your nomination packages returned to the Town of Leader Administration Office by
4:00 pm. Any packages returned later will not be accepted.
* You can withdraw your nomination by March 26th, if you decide you do not wish to run for
Council.
Advance Polling – April 22
* Town of Leader Administration Office (151 – 1st Street West)
* Polls open from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Election Day – April 29
* Town of Leader Administration Office (151 – 1st Street West)
* Polls open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Who Can Run for Mayor and Council?
Candidates in the municipal election must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age on Election Day;
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Have resided in the municipality for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the date the nomination paper is submitted; and
- Have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the date the nomination paper is submitted.
Who Can Vote?
Eligible voters must be:
- At least 18 years of age on Election Day;
- A Canadian Citizen;
- A resident of Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding Election Day; and either
a) a resident of the Town of Leader for at least three consecutive months immediately
preceding Election Day; or
b) an owner of assessable land for at least three consecutive months immediately
preceding Election Day.
