Memorial Trees
The Town of Leader offers individuals, families and organizations an opportunity to plant a living legacy to memorialize their loved ones.
A plaque will be placed at the base of each tree with the loved one’s name on it and the year the tree was planted.

Tree Options and Planting Locations
All trees are planted and cared for by the Town of Leader. People wishing to volunteer to be part of this initiative are encouraged to contact the Town Office to register. Volunteers may be asked to assist with tree pickup, planting, watering, and general maintenance.
There are four planting locations to choose from when applying for a memorial tree:
- Leader Cemetery: around the perimeter and various locations throughout the cemetery.
- Downtown Corridor: On the boulevards along 1st Avenue (some restrictions will apply).
- Greenspaces, Parks & Sportsgrounds: this includes any municipally owned playgrounds, green spaces and recreational facilities.
- General Reforestation: this includes residential boulevards, walking paths, and various other locations around Leader
There are many varieties of trees that may be purchased for planting but the Town will be deferring to the listing of approved trees declared in the Urban Forestry Bylaw. The final decision on the selected tree species for planting will reside with the Town of Leader. The Town will strive to ensure that all trees purchased are a minimum of 5′ tall.
Cost
Prices for 2025-2026 include the cost of the tree, plaque, installation and maintenance. It also covers the three year warranty from the Town (in the case of a dead or vandalized tree, the Town will replace at no additional cost to the original purchaser).
2025 Memorial Tree Fee: $150.00
